The Hollywood Sign turns 100!

DesignerCon 2023 is excited to announce this year’s theme for the Art Show: ‘HOLLYWOOD 100.’ The show is a celebration of one of the world’s most iconic signs on its 100th birthday.

I was one of a hundred artists provided with a 1/100 exclusive Hollywood sign figurine designed by Onch and 3DRetro as a canvas.

Curated by @janedopeness, the Art Show at DCON will be paying homage to one of LA’s most iconic structures and we are thrilled to see it all come together.

Throughout 2023 and 2024, the @hollywoodchamberofcommerce, in partnership with the @hollywoodsigntrust, @cityoflosangeles and Evolution joins forces with DCON to provide an engaging fan experience // #hollywood100 #hollywoodsign #dcon

New Phones in Hollywood

New Phones in Hollywood painted at Sunset and Gower and at the Fonda Theatre on Hollywood blvd.

It goes without saying, but the world was a different place before the internet and cellphones. We’d head out in the morning to skate, paint, or whatever, and meet up with friends at a few spots around the city. If you didn’t find them at one, you’d run into them at another - or on the way there. You had a general sense of when dinner was and somehow just made it back home, unreachable the whole time.

Being connected like we are today has its upsides, but we’re also constantly distracted - if not outright addicted - to our phones. The dopamine-driven feedback loops keep us hooked: texting, checking likes, posting and doomscrolling.

Beyond the nostalgia, pay phones represent a time that felt freer, more innocent, less fragmented by distraction. With the last pay phone recently removed from NYC, these actions are my attempt to make them just a little harder to erase from the streets of LA.
